Sailing with the German “Leu” team for the third consecutive year as tactician, Wouter has been able to help the team with his leadership and tactician skills to win the prestigious “von Pots” price for season overall winner. A series of races spanning from May to September has seen the team in a fierce battle with the other German big boat teams in both the North Sea and the Baltic. With a solid performance in the Flensburger Woche in September, the leu crew left no doubt who deserved the prize.
Says Wouter: “In these big boat projects to win the season prize you have to be at the top of your game in all the regatta’s. Whether it is light winds, medium winds or strong winds, you have to be up there fighting for the podium places. With the strong support of the owner, and keen crew, we have really been crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s, to leave nothing to chance and show a solid performance across the board. I am particularly pleased with the result as the team has made a big step this year, after we have de-centralized the organization, which meant that from bow to stern every team member had to pull their weight. Everybody has exceeded both their own and the teams expectations. I am very grateful to be part of this fun and driven team. I am very much looking forward to next season on Leu!”
